I took a needle and poked my ingrown hair and white stuff came out what does it mean?

Okay, So i had a bump on my vagina. and i got it like a day or two after shaving so i figured it was an ingrown hair because it looked like one. And i'm not sexually active so it has to be one. so after like 2 days it started bothering me so i looked online for how to get rid of them and it said to dig the hair out with a needle... well, i took a needle and i started poking it. lol... and then after like two pokes a whole bunch of white stuff came out. then i cleaned all the white stuff out. Now my ingrown hair doesn't irritate me anymore and the swelling went down. Okay so the white stuff came out of it... what does that mean? did i do it right? Is that the end of my ingrown hair? am i just gonna have to wait for it to heal now? OR do i have to go back and do the needle thing and actually look for the hair? im so lost
